Jennifer Humphrey

Jennifer Humphrey is an accomplished educator, educational leader, and founder of Breaking Barriers EDU with more than two decades of experience supporting students, families, and communities. As a career educator with graduate training in Education and Social Policy from NYU, Jennifer brings a unique perspective that bridges classroom experience with an understanding of the systems that influence educational outcomes. Throughout her career, she has advocated for students and worked to ensure that learners receive the support, resources, and educational opportunities necessary to succeed.

Through Breaking Barriers EDU, Jennifer is extending her commitment to student success beyond the classroom by developing initiatives focused on early intervention, targeted support, and community-centered solutions. Her vision is rooted in the belief that meaningful change begins by addressing barriers early, strengthening foundational skills, and empowering children with the confidence and resources needed for lifelong learning. Drawing from her experiences as an educator and nonprofit founder, Jennifer is building pathways that help expand opportunities for students and communities.

Leidy Rodriguez

Leidy Rodriguez is a Special Education Teacher and Parent Advocate with over 20 years of experience supporting students with diverse learning needs. She specializes in early intervention, individualized instruction, and empowering families to advocate effectively within educational systems.

She has led professional development sessions, workshops, and webinars for educators, administrators, and family engagement professionals, focusing on strategies that strengthen home–school partnerships and improve student outcomes. Passionate about inclusive and culturally responsive practices, Leidy combines practical expertise with a steadfast commitment to ensuring every student has access to meaningful, equitable educational opportunities.

Jacey McCowan

Jacey McCowan is a construction and real estate development professional with extensive experience leading complex projects across the public and private sectors. She brings expertise in financial stewardship, strategic planning, budgeting, project oversight, and stakeholder engagement. Passionate about using development as a catalyst for community impact, Jacey works to align sound financial management with long-term organizational goals.

As Treasurer and Real Estate Development Director, she provides leadership in financial oversight, development planning, and project execution — ensuring the organization's resources are managed responsibly while advancing opportunities that support its mission. Her experience navigating entitlement processes, coordinating multidisciplinary teams, and managing multimillion-dollar projects enables her to evaluate opportunities with both fiscal responsibility and strategic vision.

Community Outreach Liaison

Andre Gordon

Andre Gordon is an experienced educator and nonprofit professional with more than 25 years of service in education and the nonprofit sector. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice from John Jay College and a Master of Science in Education in Students with Disabilities (Birth–Grade 6). Throughout his career, Andre has been dedicated to empowering children, families, and communities through education, advocacy, and service. He is passionate about creating inclusive, student-centered learning environments that foster the academic, social, and emotional growth of all learners, particularly students with diverse learning needs.

Drawing on extensive experience in both educational settings and nonprofit organizations, Andre brings a unique perspective on supporting children and families both inside and outside the classroom. His work is grounded in evidence-based instructional practices, meaningful collaboration, and the belief that equitable opportunities and strong partnerships are essential to student success. Committed to lifelong learning and compassionate leadership, Andre strives to inspire confidence, foster resilience, and create opportunities for every learner to thrive.

LaShonda Simmons

LaShonda Simmons is a real estate investor, property management professional, construction project manager, and entrepreneur with more than 20 years of experience leading residential investments, construction projects, and business operations. A former restaurant owner, she is recognized for her strategic leadership, operational expertise, and commitment to creating opportunities that strengthen individuals and communities.

As a Board Member of Breaking Barriers EDU, LaShonda is passionate about empowering the next generation through education, mentorship, and entrepreneurship. She believes that equipping young people with knowledge, leadership, and real-world opportunities lays the foundation for financial independence, generational wealth, and lasting community impact.
